What’s the difference between proofreading and editing Dutch texts?
When I proofread your Dutch text, I go on the hunt for mistakes in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and style. I might edit sentence structures, but will return your text to you looking mostly the same—just nicely polished. If you provide the original English text, I will also keep an eye on that to ensure the translation is 100% accurate.
If you request full editing, which is more common for long texts like books, I will look at the entire structure of the text. This involves closer communication with the author; we’ll look at things like how to ensure your message comes across, story elements, logic, deep fact checking, tone, consistency, and the like.
If you’re already happy with the way your text is structured—which is usually the case for translations—you’ll generally only need a round of proofreading, not editing.
Can you edit Dutch text written by AI?
Yes. If you translated your text using AI, or used an LLM to generate it in the first place, I can help you ensure it sounds human and is free of “translationese” (exceedingly literal translations that end up sounding unnatural in the target language).
After editing, your text will no longer register on AI checkers like ZeroGPT: the score will generally drop below 10%, which indicates a human-written text. If you require an even lower score, just let me know.

How does Dutch post‑editing work for machine translation?
Dutch AI text refinement mainly involves careful localization and humanization. LLMs are currently unable to fully grasp local nuances, both in terms of culture and in terms of language. As a Dutch native, I am, so I can provide natural Dutch phrasing.
In addition to this, thanks to my extensive experience as a writer, I can get rid of the inherent “sameness” present in all AI-generated texts. The same goes for the “translationese” associated with texts that were AI-translated from English or a different language to Dutch.
